Jobs and shift changes

Jobs and shift changes

If a shift with jobs assigned is changed, job times may change to reflect this.

To modify a shift start and end time, select Modify Shift from the Shift tile on the right. Or select Change Shift to change the shift times with another pre-defined shift duration.

Job times are treated as relative to the start of the shift. In the below example, the first job starts 0 minutes after the start of the shift (08:00) and ends 240 minutes after the start of the shift (12:00). The second job starts 300 minutes after the start of the shift (13:00) and ends 420 minutes after the start of the shift (15:00).

In the next example, the shift start time has been changed to 07:45. Note that the job times have changed to keep the same offset from the shift start time.

If part of a job is pushed past the shift end time (by changing to a later shift start time or earlier shift end time), the job is cropped to fit into the remaining time.

In the below example, the start of the shift has been changed to 09:00. The start and end times of the first job have changed to keep the same offset from the shift start time. The start time of the second job has also changed. The end time of the second job would be 16:00, but as the shift ends at 15:30, 30 minutes have been cropped from the second job.

Although the second job now ends at the same time as the shift, the original job end time is still stored in the background. If the shift duration increases, the second job expands to match the new end time up to the point at which it is no longer cropped.

In the below example, the end time of the shift has been changed to 16:30. The second job has returned to its previous duration (300 minutes after start of shift to 420 minutes after start of shift), leaving a half-hour gap at the end of the shift.

An exception to this rule applies if a job is created with the same end time as the shift itself. If this happens, the end time of the job is treated as matching the end time of the shift. The start time of the job still changes to keep the same offset from the shift start time, but the duration of the job will change to keep the end of the job and the end of the shift the same.

In the below example, a third job has been added which ends at 16:30, the same time as the end of the shift.

The end time of the shift is changed to 16:45. The end time of the third job changes accordingly.

The start time of the shift is changed to 08:45. The first and second jobs move to accommodate the new time, and the start time of the third job also moves. However, the end time of the third job remains at the end of the shift, increasing the job time to an hour overall.

Note: using Revert to Roster or Change Roster will delete jobs from a shift, unless the shift has been personalised.
