A list of details for the phrases displayed in the TMS user-interface can be exported to a CSV (Comma separated values) file. The details include the name or key and the default value for each phrase along with the corresponding values for any languages you choose to export. The exported phrases can be viewed and edited using a suitable application and can then be re-imported in to TMS. This may be useful if you need to update a large number of phrases or where it is more convenient to translate phrases outside of TMS.
You can use the phrases search feature to restrict the number of phrases to export.
To import a list of phrases, navigate to the main Language maintenance page, by selecting Language maintenance from the menu in the drop-down Header pane, then click Import phrases in the left-hand navigation pane. A file upload page opens. For example:
Use the Browse button to navigate to a suitably formatted CSV file. Select the file and click Submit in the left-hand pane to proceed.
The CSV file is typically created by exporting terms from TMS.
The file must contain columns labelled 'Name' and 'Default', for the phrase name or key and the default value. It may also contain columns for any selected Supported languages.
If the file is correctly formatted and contains no errors, the values are imported into TMS.
The import will update the values for existing phrases (with a matching name or phrase key), with the values in the file and the modified Language maintenance page is displayed.
If you attempt to import a file which is not a CSV file or is an incorrectly formatted CSV file, an error is displayed and the import is cancelled. For example:
Examples of CSV file formatting errors include missing columns labelled 'Name' or 'Default' and columns labelled with incorrect names for the Supported languages.
To export a list of phrases used in TMS, navigate to the main Language maintenance page, by selecting Language maintenance from the menu in the drop-down Header pane, then click Export phrases in the left-hand navigation pane:
The Export phrases page opens with a list of the currently Selected languages. For example:
Click on the space and type or select the language(s) from the drop down list you wish to add. When you have made your selection, click the Submit in the left-hand pane. TMS creates a CSV formatted file of the terms.
A page opens asking if you wish to open the file with a spreadsheet application or to save it to your Browser's default location. When this is completed the file is ready for you to view and/or edit the contents using an appropriate application. If you cancel the download, the CSV file is not downloaded to your PC.
Note: By default, all phrases are exported to the CSV file. However, if you perform a phrase search on the Language maintenance page before selecting Export phrases, only the terms in the search results are exported. |
